*Below - Iris Watercolor Batik by Kathie George of Kathie George/Watermedia Workshops   - Kathie is THE founder of this technique - The iris batik below is the very first batik Kathie ever did with this technique she developed!

Thank you so much to Barbie Mathis at www.barbiemathis.com and Kathie George at kathiegeorgeart.com for making this amazing tutorial possible!

I'm so happy to announce that the full 3+ hour start to finish, real time, ad free demonstration of this beautiful watercolor batik process is also now available on my Patreon at www.patreon.com/posts/poinsettia-batik-115999003.

I've been emailing Kathie George, the original founder of this technique. I asked her how she developed this technique, and here is what she said...

"Rachel, You asked how I came up with my technique. To make a long story short....I had been doing fabric batik and then I got pregnant. At that time, fabric batik was done by dipping the fabric in subsequent vats of dye followed by waxing with a mix of Beeswax (which was super expensive at the time) and paraffin. After my daughter was born, I really did not want to deal with the dyes that were involved.

So, I was sitting in my studio one day staring at the wall and pondering the situation. I happened to have a roll of rice paper sitting in the corner - so I thought "why not"? I tried a piece and used watercolor instead of the dyes. I fell in love with it at that moment! and the rest is history. haha.

I'll attach a photo of that very first piece I did.

Back to the grindstone...thank you again for being so open about your video, etc. ~Kathie"

She has an amazing website where she sells Batik starter kits for a VERY reasonable price at https://kathiegeorgeart.com/shopping/batik-starter-set-3/ and more supplies at https://kathiegeorgeart.com/shopping/

Please tell her I sent you if you buy from her, and #SupportLivingArtists

More news about another tutorial coming soon of...

For an added bonus to those of you who want MORE content, I've added a special surprise at the end of Session 4 of the real time Patreon Batik tutorial - a link to the first session of "Biscuit the Basset". At the end of each of the four sessions I uploaded, you will find a link embedded that will take you to the next session.

That tutorial is at least 3 hours of watercolor goodness and is chock full of so many good watercolor lessons that will apply to SO MANY painting scenarios, including how to use watercolor ground, how to paint an underpainting, how to use layers to create a hypnotically glowing gorgeousness to your work (The Biscuit shadow I painted glows, and I actually learned a thing or two I'm excited to apply to other subjects, like more glow in my people portraits). I have about 2 hours worth of footage up, so you will find links at the end of all the 4 sessions that I have already uploaded. and I have 2 more to edit and upload to complete that basset hound watercolor tutorial.
